Falafel With Easy Tahini Dip

Light and airy yet crispy falafel balls filled with herby garlic flavor.

Falafel is one of my favorite Middle Eastern-inspired street food recipes. They are delicious balls of chickpea and garlicky herb goodness that are deep-fried. Dried chickpeas are softened by soaking in water overnight, combined with herbs, garlic, and cumin, and processed to a gritty-smooth consistency. The mixture is then formed into balls or patties and deep-fried for a texture that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s enjoyed as street food or served in wraps and salads with tahini sauce or hummus. They are naturally gluten-free and dairy-free.

Chickpeas are delicious and nutritious. They are a terrific source of plant-based protein and fiber along with containing several vitamins and minerals. Because chickpeas are high in protein and fiber, they keep you feeling full, making them a great snack. Falafel is quick to cook, however, the process requires planning because of the time it takes to soak the chickpeas. Dried chickpeas need to get softened which requires soaking in water for several hours or overnight. This recipe makes light and airy yet crispy falafel balls filled with herby garlic flavor.

Ingredients required

For the falafel:-

Chickpeas – 1 cup; use dried chickpeas. Soak it overnight and drain
Parsley – 1 cup; this adds heaps of flavor and turns the inside a beautiful green
Coriander leaves – 1 cup; this too adds the flavor and turns the inside a beautiful green
Mint leaves – 10 numbers
Onion – 1 large
Garlic – 7 cloves
Cumin – 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Chilly powder – 1 teaspoon
Salt – 1 teaspoon
Pepper – 1 teaspoon
Lemon juice – 1 lemon
Chickpea flour – 2 tablespoons; this is added to bind the mixture together
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
Oil – for deep frying

For the dip:-

Tahini sauce – 3 tablespoon
Garlic powder – ½ teaspoon
Chilly powder – ½ teaspoon
Salt – ¼ teaspoon
Lemon juice – 1 lemon
Water – 2 tablespoon

How to make Falafel with easy dip

Rinse and soak dried chickpeas: Rinse and soak the dried chickpeas in water overnight or 8 to 10 hours. Cover with plenty of water as chickpeas triple in size. Then drain them. You might need to plan the making of falafels as the chickpeas require 8 to 10 hours of soaking.
Making the falafel mix: Add the chickpeas, roughly chopped onion, herbs, garlic, cumin, coriander powder, chilly powder, pepper, and salt to a food processor and pulse to form a coarse mix. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the juice of 1 lemon and baking powder and chickpea flour, stir it together until fully combined.
Form patties and fry: Scoop a tablespoonful of the mixture to form patties of 3/4^th of an inch thickness. Fill a frying pan up to 2 inches with oil. Heat the oil on medium. Carefully drop the falafel patties in the oil, and let them fry for about 4 to 5 minutes or so until crispy and deep golden brown on the outside. Fry them in batches. Avoid crowding the falafels in the frying pan.
Make the tahini dip and enjoy: For the dip, mix tahini sauce, garlic powder, chilly powder, salt, juice of one lemon, and water until they are well combined. Serve hot falafels with the dip.
